My Recent Work Statement
My most recent work is an ongoing exploration of everyday intimacies, joys, gestures, expressions and family dynamics. I am inherently drawn to capture the optimistic aspects of life; the joyful and mischievous moments that celebrate, the moments we wish to remember, yet never discounting the harsh realities of our modern world. My travels take me to visit family on the other side of the country which juxtapose that of an aging father whose will to live dimmed long ago to my young niece who pursues life with complete abandon. These opposites influence my work and in the resulting imagery I try to tell a story of both joy and the fragile nature of time. A consummate observer, I prefer to photograph intuitively letting scenes unfold naturally with subjects that are either complete strangers or people to whom I am most intimate.
